Is there a way to have the calendar widget refresh without having to do it manually, such as after the computer waking up?

I didn't test it for this suite, but you could right click on the calendar skin and choose to edit it, add a line containing OnWakeAction=[!Refresh] to its [Rainmeter] section, save the file, and right click to refresh it. After that, what you want should normally work.
